Student Experience Leader - Faculty of Creative Arts, Technologies & Science
Role purpose: To work in partnership with staff and the Students’ Union to enhance the student voice.
Working hours: 160 hours over a maximum of 26 continuous weeks.
Interviews: Online - week commencing 11th September 2023.
Eligibility:
- Be registered on a degree course at the University of Bedfordshire in the academic year 2023-24
- Be studying on a course within the Faculty of Creative Arts, Technologies & Science
- Be studying at one of the following campuses: Luton, Bedford, MK, Aylesbury, Putteridge Bury, LSC London, LSC Birmingham
- Have a UK bank account
- Have proof of right to work in the UK (ie National Insurance number)
- Students on a tier 4 visa are advised to check any limitations on the number of hours they are permitted to work
Responsibilities (Project – 75%):
- To act as a School Representative
- To engage fully with the project to gain a detailed understanding of the nature and extent of the work, timescales and deadlines
- To investigate the key areas of need to enhance the designated school or faculty student experience and carry out a project or series of activities to address them
- To make regular contact with the project team via formal and informal means in order to brief the team on progress, issues and challenges and input on decision making
- To fulfil project requirements according to the specification in coordination with the project team
- To input into key outputs such as report writing, delivery of presentations, production of materials and/or assisting at events
- To participate in training and development opportunities
- To support the evaluation of their project and the SEL scheme as a whole, e.g. by completing a questionnaire and participating in a focus group
- To raise health and safety issues where necessary
- To ensure full consideration and inclusion of all equality and diversity issues
Responsibilities (Students’ Union – 25%):
- To highlight recognised trends within the student experience (both positive and negative) and work with the SU and Faculty staff to share good practice, as well as suggest solutions that are student-focused
- To update students on the actions, developments with feedback or within the faculty, closing the feedback loop so that students know what happened with their feedback
- To liaise with Course Reps, other SELs and SU Reps – with the support of Beds SU – around issues that have been raised to them (as well as online), to help swiftly identify issues on a wider scale and escalate accordingly, as well as to discuss the closing of the feedback loop
- To collate student voice from students, SU Reps, and be the advocate for that feedback in faculty/department meetings, upon request
- To promote, develop and enhance the student voice across the University, including feedback mechanisms, championing the collection of feedback on a wide range of topics (i.e. the 3 Ways of Student Feedback)
- To attend discussion events (i.e. Chat for Change, focus groups) to hear directly from students
- To meet with the relevant Beds SU’s Leads on (at least) a termly basis to discuss personal and professional development within their role
- To attend Rep networking events
- To support the recruitment and training of Course Reps to establish a network to help gather feedback from all areas of their (assigned) School
- To create a community among peers and encourage a culture of honesty and openness to giving the University feedback
