Digital Internship - Cobra Sport - (Sheffield)

Cobra Sport (Exhausts UK Ltd) is a leading UK manufacturer of high-performance automotive exhausts, specialising in:

  • Aftermarket car exhaust systems
  • Newly launched motorcycle exhaust systems
  • Stainless steel TIG-welded components
  • Motorsport-grade performance products

The business is long-established, internationally recognised, and known for precision fabrication and distinctive styling. A sister company, Cobra Manufacturing, applies the same skills in sheet metalwork, tube bending, CNC machining, prototyping, and bespoke fabrication across sectors. 

As part of our ongoing digital transformation, Cobra is investing in advanced Industry 4.0 manufacturing technologies — including a new laser welding system — and digital workflow tools to improve quality, repeatability, training, and efficiency across production and compliance. This internship will accelerate the digitalisation of our internal processes and help embed new ways of working.

Internship Overview

We are offering an 11-week paid Digital Internship designed for early-stage university students seeking structured, practical experience within a manufacturing and administrative environment. The internship will support the business in introducing digital task management tools and digital work instructions across production, quality, packing, and office functions.

 

The successful candidate will assist with documenting existing processes, supporting the transition from manual to digital workflows, and contributing to the evaluation of emerging digital technologies used for training and operational support. Full training and guidance will be provided throughout the placement.

 

This internship will contribute directly to Cobra’s digital transformation and support future integration with Industry 4.0 systems, including automated welding process monitoring and traceability.


Duration: 11-weeks, 12th January – 27th March 

Location: Unit 10–12, The Turner Business Park, Richmond Park Road, Handsworth, Sheffield, S13 8HT

Working Hours: 20 hours per week

Rate of Pay: £12.21 Per Hour 

 

What You’ll Gain

Project Responsibilities

During your 11-weekinternship, you will:

1. Process Documentation and Digitalisation

  • Observe and document existing manual processes across production, administration, packing, and quality
  • Assist with basic process mapping and identification of inefficiencies
  • Support the conversion of manual activities into structured digital workflows
  • Help develop clear and standardised digital work instructions

2. Task Management System Support

  • Assist with configuring and rolling out the Manually task management system
  • Help set up recurring task schedules (e.g. administrative, safety, and quality checks)
  • Support the creation of dashboards, reminders, and simple reports
  • Assist with user onboarding and internal guidance

3. Digital Work Instructions and Training Materials

  • Support the capture of work instructions using smart glasses and other digital tools
  • Help organise, tag, and manage digital training content
  • Assist in creating visual, step-by-step instructions to improve consistency and understanding

 

 

4. Evaluation of Emerging Technologies

  • Support the assessment of smart glasses for usability, safety, and practicality
  • Observe potential applications in training, quality checks, and repeatable tasks
  • Contribute feedback and recommendations for future use

5. Data Collection and Reporting

  • Assist with capturing baseline data to support performance measurement
  • Help prepare weekly progress summaries for internal stakeholders
  • Support simple reporting activities within digital platforms

6. Continuous Improvement Support

  • Work alongside team leaders to support adoption of new digital workflows
  • Identify opportunities for small-scale efficiency improvements
  • Assist in embedding improved ways of working

 

Who Should Apply

This internship is suitable for 1st or 2nd year university students who:

  • Have an interest in digital tools, process improvement, or operational efficiency
  • Are studying Engineering, Manufacturing, Computing, Business, Digital Media, or a related discipline
  • Are comfortable learning new software and working with structured tasks
  • Can operate effectively in both office and workshop environments
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with a range of colleagues

 

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Interest in workflow or task management software
  • Basic understanding of process mapping or documentation
  • Interest in creating digital or video-based content
  • Awareness of health and safety or quality systems
