Project Responsibilities

As an intern, you will be supported through the following work plan:

1. Assess Current Systems & Processes (Weeks 1–3)

  • Map current manual workflows for estimating, production, and job tracking.
  • Review how Joinerysoft and StairBiz are currently used and identify gaps.
  • Document production pain points, bottlenecks, and duplication.
  • Evaluate digital readiness of machines (CNC, saws, etc.).

2. Define the Target Digital Workflow (Weeks 2–5)

  • Design a simplified, digital-first workflow for windows/doors and stairs.
  • Identify which manual steps can be removed or automated.
  • Specify what outputs Joinerysoft and StairBiz should feed into production (BOMs, cutting lists, CNC files).

3. Select & Set Up Supporting Digital Tools (Weeks 4–8)

  • Choose one or two practical tools for immediate impact, e.g.:
    • Digital work orders / job packets
    • Barcode/QR labels for job identification
    • Production scheduling board or simple MES
  • Configure these systems for real use (templates, naming, user accounts).

4. Streamline Data & Templates (Weeks 4–8)

  • Standardise material lists, hardware lists, and naming conventions.
  • Clean up Joinerysoft and StairBiz libraries/data where needed.
  • Create digital templates for cutting lists, work instructions, and QA sheets.

5. Pilot a Digital Production Workflow (Weeks 7–11)

  • Run a pilot on either:
    • One window product line, or
    • One stair type.
  • Use digital job packets instead of paper.
  • Implement tracking through the shop (simple scanning or check-in/out).
  • Validate CNC or machine outputs based on Joinerysoft/StairBiz files.

6. Train Staff & Support the Rollout (Weeks 9–12)

  • Deliver short, focused training sessions for workshop and design staff.
  • Update SOPs to reflect the digital process.
  • Provide floor support during the pilot.
  • Collect feedback to refine the approach.

7. Report on Results & Next Steps (Week 12)

  • Measure early improvements (errors reduced, time saved, visibility increased).
  • Document what worked well and what needs improvement.
  • Prepare a roadmap for the next 6–12 months of digitalisation.
