GBP 7781 Communications and Digital Engagement Support Officer

Job Summary

The Sports Department at the University are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic communications and digital engagement support officer to work in their busy and ever-changing department to lead our communications activity across the breadth of sport. You will work across wider University departments maintaining excellent relationships and ensuring the brand of Exeter sport is promoted. In this role, you will play a key part in delivering against the sport and physical activity strategy using effective marketing and positioning of our sporting offer. You will have experience alongside excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a close-knit team environment. Attention to detail and a flair for innovation is crucial in working with our student demographic to promote and drive forwards our communication strategies.

This role is part of the Graduate Business Partnership (GBP) scheme and offers full-time hours (36.5 hours per week) based at the Sports Park on Streatham Campus in Exeter with occasional remote working possible. This post is available immediately until July 2026.

Purpose of the Role

You will work across wider University departments maintaining excellent relationships and ensuring the brand of Exeter sport is promoted. In this role, you will play a key part in delivering against the sport and physical activity strategy using effective marketing and positioning of our sporting offer. We are looking for a dynamic individual who is solution-focused, an excellent team player, and is committed to providing outstanding customer experience, even under demanding, high-volume, busy periods. The ability to interpret management data and provide the senior team with appropriate information is critical.

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

Communications Support

  • Liaise with colleagues to develop a communications plan, co-ordinate all communications activities against a schedule
  • Play an active role in the Sports communications working group.
  • Be the main staff point of contact for Athletic Union (AU) club media and publicity committee roles. This will include working closely with the AU media executive position and holding regular drop-in support sessions to engage and support students with AU club media and communications. 

Website support

  • Liaise with central comms team to ensure sports website is following brand and corporate guidelines
  • Develop the website to evolve content and review structure
  • Co-ordinate site responsibilities for content

 

Site Visuals

  • Ensure all visual displays are current and updated in conjunction with the University design team
  • Ensure any leaflets, handbooks, resources are updated and accessible to all

 

Media

  • Organise and co-ordinate any filming, video / photography shoots to evolve our content and ensure appropriate storage
  • Ensure accurate records of stock, consent is given and recorded following University processes
  • Work with student brand ambassadors to get relevant and engaging content to promote student experience
  • Support app development for activities to ensure communications through this medium are accurate and reviewed regularly

 

Open Days, student events/fixtures, commercial events

  • Co-ordinate presence and staff engagement in the events where required
  • Attend and provide media coverage at key student events/fixtures alongside AU media executive position and AU media and publicity committee roles.
  • Research and identify opportunities for commercial promotional events

 

News

  • Support colleagues with identification and creation of news stories and ensure publication in a timely format
  • Publish all news stories 
  • Support internal communication both within department and within wider University channels

 

You will need to work flexibly, as there will be a requirement for evenings and weekends to cover events.

 

Training and Development - What Skills and Experience will this Opportunity Provide?

  • Collaborate with students in committee leadership positions on communications and media for their clubs
  • To work with the University central Marcomms team and to have a staff key liaison in this team for guidance and professional advice

Degree and Attainment

  • You should have graduated from a UK-based University in the last 3 years
  • International graduates with a Graduate Visa are welcome to apply

  • Excellent written communication skills

Graduate Business Partnership (GBP) Scheme Requirements

  • To undertake a graduate role through the GBP scheme, you must have either achieved your degree or be in your final year at any UK-based university
  • If you are in your final year, your working hours may be reduced to 15 hours per week (for undergraduates) or 6 hours per week (for postgraduates) to ensure you have the capacity to successfully complete your degree.
