Accommodation Assistant
We are seeking students to work as an Accommodation Assistant at our upcoming Undergraduate Applicant Open Days on:
- Saturday 22nd March 2025
- Sunday 27th April 2025
Your role will include:
- Welcoming prospective students and their guests into your accommodation
- Working as part of a team to coordinate tours of your halls of residence, including your room/flat and communal areas
- Talking positively about your experiences of living and being a student at Sheffield Hallam University
- Answering any questions prospective students/ Open Day guests may have and signposting them to the relevant team or person if required
We would like you to be comfortable to show your flat/room as part of this role, as well as any communal areas. There may also be opportunities to assist with other responsibilities and tasks if required by hall staff on the day e.g. keeping a tally of visitors attending the accommodation.
We are looking for students who live at the following halls of residence:
- LIV Student
- The Forge
- Exchange Works
- The Elements
- Beton House
- The Trigon
- The Gate
*Please note if you do not currently reside at one of these halls - you will not be considered for the role. You will also need to have applied for your Accommodation directly through SHU Accommodation in order to work in this role.
Dates of upcoming Open Days (work opportunities):
- Saturday 22nd March 2025
- Sunday 27th April 2025
There may also be opportunity to support at our Open Day event on Saturday 5th July 2025
Hours: from 9:30am - 4:00pm or 11:00am - 4:00pm.
Shift finish times are subject to change, and you may be asked to sign out earlier if it becomes quieter later in the day. In the event of a football match on any of these dates, you may be asked to work a shorter shift due to crowds and road closures.
You will be paid an additional hour for cleaning/tidying your room and communal areas in your flat ahead of the event(s) if you are showing your room on the day. Please be aware, if you work at The Forge, you will conduct tours of a show flat and not your own room/flat, so won’t receive an additional hour of pay for room cleaning.
This work will be paid at £12.60 p/h or £14.12 p/h with holiday pay. Please note that the amount you are paid may differ depending on your tax code and whether you have recently commenced your employment with us.
You can expect a delay in receiving your pay if you work a shift in March, as any students not on payroll already won’t be paid for the work until 18th May. If you have any queries regarding your pay, please contact our Campus Jobs team via this email- campusjobs@shu.ac.uk
If you are successful in this application, you will be required to attend a 1-hour paid online briefing on Tue 18th March at 4:00pm or have watched the briefing recording (and confirmed that you have done so via email) in order to work a shift. You will be paid for 1- hour for completing the training.
To work in this role, you will be required to bring in documentation to prove eligibility to work; either your passport or original A4 Birth Certificate. Unfortunately, copies are not accepted. You will not be able to work in the role if you are unable to provide this proof/documentation. If you are shortlisted for the role, the Campus Jobs team will contact you in regard to completing your Right To Work Checks.
Right To Work Checks will need to be completed between Mon 10th March- Thu 13th March.
