What are you looking for?
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Personalisation and Assessment Team in the role of Benefit & Assessment Advisor. You will manage your own case load completing means tested financial assessments and welfare benefit applications.
The ability to work productively and collaboratively in a large multi-disciplinary team and with colleagues and partners within the Directorate and externally.
You will have enhanced communication, negotiation and organisational skills and be able to implement these across a wide range of situations either in person, through written communication or via the telephone.
What will be expected from me?
The ability to travel within the district is required, as you will be undertaking financial assessments, benefit checks and completing applications in peoples’ homes along with supporting people with online applications via the Council’s online financial assessment portal BetterCare.
To provide specialist advice on the financial assessment process & to determine an appropriate charge in those instances where services are provided by or arranged by Adults Directorate and Children’s services.
To provide a consultancy telephone advice service to a wide and diverse range of designated persons in respect of Welfare Benefits and the Financial Assessment process.
After a period of training, you will have the option to work remotely for up to four days per week.

Essential requirements:
5 GCSE passes including English & Maths or equivalent.
Educated to A Level standard or equivalent e.g., NVQ3 or demonstrable experience in Welfare Rights / Benefits / Financial Assessments.
Ideally, you will have knowledge of DWP welfare benefits and local authority financial assessments and a commitment to excellent customer service in a busy working environment.
High level of accuracy and numeracy
Excellent organisational skills i.e., ability to organise workload and prioritise caseload.
Ability to deal sensitively with vulnerable service users and their carers.
Basic DBS check.
