CDT currently requires a Research Assistant to contribute to our research and development activities within an ongoing project on organic photodetectors. In this role, you will be involved in the design, fabrication and characterisation of organic photodetectors (OPDs) using novel organic materials. With support from the team, you will plan and perform the investigations of new materials for OPDs, to establish structure-property correlations and to investigate the impact of the material properties on device performance. In addition, you will play a key role in discussing results and providing next-step recommendations for the project.

You will hold a BSc in Chemistry, Material Science or Physics and have experience of working in a scientific research laboratory in a strong research and development aligned industry or organisation.   Able to demonstrate and deliver clear conclusions from the analysis of research activities, you must have strong communication skills, especially with respect to scientific/technical subject matters, and be able to clearly describe research topics, demonstrating a strong understanding of relevant theoretical backgrounds.

You should have a calm and methodical approach to work, strong attention to detail and organisation skills. Experience with a wide range of device fabrication and metrology techniques, such as spin-coating and surface profilometry is highly desirable, as would familiarity with Python, LabView or SQL.

With outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to all audiences, you will be self-motivated and proactive, with creative and inventive problem-solving abilities.  You must understand and thrive on the demands of driven industrial research and be able to demonstrate that you work with the same drive and passion as all our teams.

We offer a friendly and fun working environment and welcome applicants from all backgrounds, as we firmly believe flexibility and diversity enhances our research excellence.  We offer a fantastic holiday allowance (27 days for full time employees), bank holidays, an additional day off to celebrate your birthday and a day off for you to undertake voluntary work aligned with our values.  In addition, we have flexi-time arrangements.

We also offer all the usual benefits you would expect, including private health and dental insurance, life assurance, income protection insurance, an Employee Assistance Programme and a pension scheme.   It goes without saying that our salaries are also pretty good, supported by a generous sign-on bonus to welcome you and help ease the move to CDT.
