IT and Digital Skills Tutor – Job Description 

 

Salary:  NJC 4  Full time £22,369- £24,054 pro-rata   

Fixed Term Contract - 1st Aug 24 – 31st Jan 25 (possible extension subject to funding) 

Location: Partington Youth Centre, Moss Lane, Trafford, M31 4FA  

Hours: 16 hours (Monday – Thursday 12pm – 4pm) 

Closing Date: 19th July 

Interview: Week commencing 29th July 

 

Role  

To provide IT and digital skills training to young people aged 16 - 20 years old who are not in employment, education or training (NEET). The role will include instruction in mainstream IT packages such as Word, Database and spreadsheets. There is also an expectation for tutoring in basic coding skills which can be transferred to the workplace. 

Young people will attend the project on a flexible basis and supported with wider coaching in work skills, applying for further training and apprenticeships. The IT tutor will work alongside a Youth Work practitioner who will provide personal and social interventions to support transition to further learning and work opportunities. 

A good understanding and skills in IT are essential along with a basic appreciation of working with young people who are experiencing barriers to gaining employment.  

Partington has an excellent IT facility alongside a well-resourced centre providing sports, arts and leisure areas. The building has a high standard kitchen area which will be available for meals and refreshments. 

 

Education, Experience, Skills & Capabilities 

  • Ideally a degree in IT related discipline 
  • Experience of working with young people in an education or youth work setting. 
  • A good understanding and working knowledge of Microsoft office packages 
  • An understanding and working knowledge of basic coding. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and risk management related to working with young people up to 18 years and to 25 with SEND 
  • Some knowledge and understanding of how to teach Young People. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the barriers Young People experience to learning 
  • Ideally an understanding of progression routes for further learning and to work / apprenticeships 
  • This post subject to safer recruitment, including a DBS check.

GMYF is a long-established charity that works with young people across Greater Manchester, to support their aspirations and create opportunities. Our mission is to deliver a year-round programme of recreational and educational opportunities to young people, volunteers and leaders within our stand-alone centers and to provide support to affiliated clubs. 

GMYF opened our first Youth Centre in Partington in September 2022 and are in the process of opening a new Youth Centre in Charlestown. These Centers provide support for young people with a wide range of activities and make a real difference to the lives of many young people. We also have various current/former playing field sites in the Greater Manchester area and jointly own an Outward Activities Centre in Cumbria – Ormside Mill. We have 27 affiliated clubs who undertake a variety of different activities for young people. GMYF has great ambition to continue to do more for young people, with its own assets and various potential funding opportunities.
