Quarter is an independently run company at the forefront of the hospitality industry in Bristol, operating a wide selection of businesses across Clifton, in the heart of the city. Our ever-expanding portfolio currently consists of four boutique hotels, luxury 5* serviced suites, four award-winning restaurants, a highly successful property letting business, a high-spec co-working space and an exclusive and prestigious private members’ club. We also boast a very popular events space in the idyllic Hay-on-Wye in Wales, where we annually run the sell-out festival, ‘How The Light Gets In’, celebrating literature, art, philosophy and music, in conjunction with the Institute of Arts and Ideas.

We are looking for individuals with plenty of charisma and enthusiasm to join our community and forge their way to the top of our business via our Hospitality and Event Management Graduate Scheme.

  • Uniform is provided
  • Salary of £25,500 per annum plus £2,000 OTE bonus

Scheme details:

We are offering you the rare opportunity to get involved in all areas of our company, where you will learn the operations of our diverse businesses. You will be immersed into the company from the very first day, and will gain hands on experience and an insight into all aspects of hotel and restaurant management. This includes front of house operations such as team management, guest interaction and event preparation and execution. In addition, you will dip into back of house operations - from accounting, forecasting and budget management to sales and marketing, group reservations, HR, revenue management, website management and property development.

Festival

In addition to the Bristol-based rotations, you will attend and work at our two How The Light Gets In’ festivals – one in Hay-on-Wye over the late May Bank Holiday and one in London in September. Accommodation will be provided for the time you are away.

This is a great opportunity for you to meet other key members of both Quarter and TVF (our sister company). You’ll provide a supporting role in one of the key festival functions – from running your own bar, to managing the ticket office or motivating and guiding our small army of stewards. It’s a great opportunity for you to get stuck in and show your hospitality skills!

A typical rotation: each rotation is very hands-on, front-facing and spent working alongside our teams in our venues. On a typical day you will find yourself manning the front desk of our hotels, our creative co-working space or our private members club (rotation-dependent!), or serving our lovely customers for events and à la carte service in our restaurants. The events rotation will involve working with our events team to plan and organise a range of private events. As you progress through each rotation, you will begin to work through your graduate training log with the management team, where you will gain insight into management operations such as budgeting, forecasting, team management etc. The graduate training plan for each venue-based rotation also includes spending an allotted couple of days with head office departments such as HR, accounts, marketing and our property management division.

This scheme involves getting stuck in and working shifts including evenings and weekends– it is hospitality after all!

Scheme assessment and support:

Your training will be delivered by the unit managers within each rotation. Each rotation has an agreed training plan with an assessment at the end to ensure that the information has been understood. Following each rotation, you’ll have a review meeting with two of our senior managers – you’ll be able to feedback your thoughts and discuss how the scheme is going.

After six months on the scheme you’ll have a longer review and assessment – this will be used to help support any promotion applications you may choose to go for!

Scheme requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a strong business head and professional outlook, as well as the desire to succeed and the ability to learn and adapt quickly.  Although experience in hospitality is not necessary, a passion for customer service and a willingness to get stuck in is essential.

A minimum of a 2:1 in any discipline is required.
