Casual Activity Instructor - Summer Relief

COLIN GLEN FOREST PARK 

REPORT TO:           Operations Manager

INTRODUCTION:

LOCATION:

The successful candidate(s) will work primarily at Colin Glen Forest Park & Adventure Centre, 163 Stewartstown Rd, Belfast BT17 0HW, however you may also be required to work at our sister site, Colin Park, 115 Black’s Road, Belfast, BT10 10NF.

 

Our Facilities at Colin Glen include: Ireland’s first Alpine Coaster, Ireland’s longest dual Zip line and SKYtrek high and low ropes Aerial Adventure all hosted in our 250 Acre Forest Park.

 

Other activities on offer at Colin Glen include: - High/ low Ropes Course, Climbing Wall, Archery, Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Laser Tag, Bush craft, Orienteering, Environmental Education & Events etc. The post holder will have the opportunity to work and be trained in all these activities delivering to a wide range of audiences including schools, youth groups, corporate groups, families and individuals.  The successful candidate will hold a vital customer facing position within the organisation and as such is expected to show enthusiasm, commitment and passion for the projects and activities we will be delivering.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the post holder will be responsible for the following: -

 

  • To deliver high quality innovate activities and programs whilst ensuring excellent customer service and maximizing revenue opportunities.

 

  • To assist in the development of all relevant health and safety protocols and procedures for all activities on offer.

 

  • To ensure that all necessary equipment is prepared for daily use and maintained to a high standard that conforms to relevant health and safety criteria.

 

  • To ensure that health and safety systems and procedures for all activities are adhered to by all customers and staff and that equipment is correctly used, stored and maintained.

 

  • To ensure that daily, weekly and monthly site inspections are carried out and duly recorded with any issues appropriately actioned.

 

  • To ensure all maintenance records, health and safety records and security procedures are kept up to date.
  • To teach and demonstrate safe and effective use of the main attractions of Low/ high ropes course, Zip line and Alpine Coaster providing the necessary coaching and supervision.
  • To ensure that all records including consent forms and health/ safety forms are appropriately completed, filed and stored.
  • To undertake cash handling and reception duties if required in order to process a group or large party.
  • To undertake any other duties required by Management in the development and management of other events and activities which are part of the ethos and strategy of the Colin Glen Trust.

 

 

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION:

Essential Criteria 

- Minimum of 3 GCSEs including English Language and Maths or equivalent.

- Customer care experience.

- Excellent oral and written communications skills.

- Excellent judgement and reasoning abilities. 

- Ability to work as part of a team.

- Ability to take decisions and use initiative within area of responsibility

- Polite and friendly manner. 

- Remain calm under pressure. 

- Professional approach and appearance. 

- Dependable, with a flexible approach. 

- Must enjoy outdoor activity.

 

Desirable Criteria 

- Previous experience or employment in an outdoor activity centre.

- Demonstrable experience of working on high or low ropes course operations or similar accreditation.

- Recognised first Aid qualification.

- Driving licence.

- Demonstrable experience in working to health and safety systems, policies and procedures.

APPOINTMENT

  • This post is for casual summer staff, it is a zero-hour contract.
  • The post may be extended past the summer period.
  • All posts are subject to a one-month probation period.
  • Appointees will be required to work evenings, at weekends and on public holidays.
  • Must be flexible and available to work additional hours in peak periods.
  • The rate of pay meets the minimum wage requirements.
  • The role involves heavy lifting therefore a good degree of physical fitness is required.
