Public Relations Officer

Job Title: PR Officer
Location: Central London - Office Working
Salary: £25,000-£28,000 per annum pro rata, depending on experience.
Term: Fixed Term Contract

The expected date of start is April 1, 2024.

We will have the interviews starting in Mid-February and onwards.

Who we are

We are a not-for-profit company involved in human rights advocacy, strategic litigation, consultancy and integration support services for immigrant lawyers and professionals. We run several concentric projects on documenting and reporting human rights infringements, submitting reports and request files to the UK, EU and UN bodies on human rights and related third bodies, and producing social media and conventional media content to support our projects. 

 

Job description

We are looking for an outgoing and confident individual to join our team as a public relations officer who will be willing and able to work across several projects simultaneously. The responsibilities of the public relations officer include keeping calendars and media lists, participating in brainstorming sessions, managing communications with third parties, engaging in research activity that will support the PR activities of the firm and assisting with the organisation and execution of PR events.

 

Here is the kind of work we will be expecting from the new member of our team: 

  • Taking part in brainstorming sessions and suggesting innovative ideas.
  • Assisting with developing and distributing PR materials, including digital brochures, pamphlets, newsletters, and videos.
  • Editing and proofreading social media content, videos, press releases, emails, and other communications about clients sent to the public.
  • Assisting with the organisation and execution of various media and PR events.
  • Speaking to the media or to social media if and when authorised by the firm.
  • Managing PR materials, filing, copying, and performing other clerical tasks.
  • Responding to emails and inquiries and performing other administrative tasks.
  • Managing calendars and media lists.
  • Maintaining the PR database, documenting media coverage, and tracking PR metrics.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients, stakeholders, media, academics, political figures, foreign missions and vendors.
  • Participating in panels, conferences and the like to take notes and help expand the firm's network.
  • Preparing and presenting training material for the clients.
  • Representing the clients in national or international events, if and when the clients request and authorise to do so.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience in Parliamentary Settings: Prior experience as a Staffer or Assistant to an MP is essential. You should have a deep understanding of parliamentary procedures and experience in liaising with government officials.
  • Advocacy and Human Rights Passion: A strong commitment to human rights issues and advocacy work.
  • Educational Background: A Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work late hours, weekends, and travel abroad.
  • PR Knowledge: Solid grasp of PR concepts and practices, differentiating between lobbying and advocacy.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with video production/editing, social media platforms, and outstanding computer skills.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent copywriting, editing, communication, teamwork, organizational, and time-management abilities. A keen eye for detail.
