Profile

cKinetics is looking for an Economist to advance the data analytics and forecasting tools developed by cKinetics for the carbon markets.

The candidate would be part of the California Carbon team, a division of cKinetics, which provides business intelligence and analytics in carbon markets.

The person would help clients build a better understanding of carbon markets by developing visualization-driven insights, and by enhancing / developing models on several carbon offset markets. These would include Cap and Trade markets, Clean Fuels Markets across North America, Global Voluntary Carbon markets, etc.

Position deliverables

The role envisages the following activities:

  • Maintaining and adding data-pipes on information that impact carbon markets
  • Updating existing econometric/ data models and developing new relevant models pertaining to Carbon allowances, offsets, LCFS etc.
  • Develop forward looking projections and views on issues pertaining to carbon markets. Analyzing a variety of data streams using mathematical models and statistical techniques
  • Supporting delivery of reports and analysis – working with teams across the firm that require data/ insights
  • Managing / mentoring a small team of data scientists and data engineers
  • Understanding how clients are using the data/ models and finding ways of improving the client experience
  • Supporting and actively participate in product development and management

About you

  1. You have been working with analyzing data already and looking to operate in carbon markets
  2. You have a methodical and curious mindset
  3. You are comfortable being an individual contributor as well as can manage a small team

You must have

  • Post-graduation in a relevant discipline such as economics, financial engineering, data science, statistics, applied mathematics, etc.
  • experience in building models or recommendation solutions
  • Familiar with basics of data preparation and a variety of approaches to use data to solve problems (econometric tools, machine learning, linear programming and the likes)
  • Experience in climate policy, energy markets and/or environmental commodity markets is a big plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of standard analytical software such Python, Microsoft excel, R, or SPSS
  • Passion for creating newer products and experience having done so
  • Ability to work ‘hands-on’

Salary details: Competitive 

The salary is split, whilst in India you would earn an excellent professional salary for India, whilst in the UK or Europe you would earn a competitive salary for your geography. Your salary in India will give you the purchasing power to afford an brilliant lifestyle there, well beyond the equivalent lifestyle possible for the vast majority of UK graduate positions in the UK.

Many of our ex-colleagues have returned to the UK into mid-tier positions at leading organisations, effectively bypassing the company graduate programs. 

Location details:

At the start of the position you may well be working remotely from the UK, or elsewhere. Eventually you would likely move for 6 months - 2 years to Delhi, where our HQ is based. You may be required to travel through California and Canada for market events and conferences. We want people to spend time in our HQ to ramp up quickly and contribute to our company energy, forge relationships that will set them up well for collaboration when they return home.

In Delhi, you would be provided with comfortable and convenient accommodation - serviced, cleaned, and cooked for by a maid. You will also be able to travel and work flexibly around India during your employment, you may well travel with some of your friendly local colleagues, and see their home states through locals' eyes - an invaluable experience.
 

Start date details: Flexible - for the right candidate.

Initially, we prefer people to start part-time work during their course, either during term-time (for masters) or during the holidays. Then when the course concludes you go full-time and look to come to Delhi.
