Early Intensive Behavioural Intervention Tutor- Placement Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic person who is open minded, playful, creative, and has enough energy to give 100% to children and young people with autism. Candidates must be willing to learn teaching procedures based on the principles of applied behaviour analysis and be comfortable receiving ongoing training and supervision to develop each child or young person’s individualised and progressive educational programme. 

 

Full and part time positions available in the following locations: 

 

London (and surrounding areas)  

West Midlands (including Birmingham and Coventry) 

Northampton  

Bristol and Bath

  

The successful candidate will be joining UK Young Autism Project, a division of the community interest company UK Behaviour Analysis and Research Group.   

 

Our children follow a full time, comprehensive, developmental curriculum and the programme is based on the scientific principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis. Early Intensive Behavioural Intervention programmes involve teaching a wide range of functional skills using discrete trial and natural environment teaching, managing and reducing problem behaviour, data collection and analysis. Programmes are provided in the child/young person’s home initially. Later the role includes shadowing in community settings, nursery, school and in some cases college or work experience settings.   

 

This position provides an excellent opportunity for those studying psychology (or other related subjects), who are looking for a placement opportunity, to gain experience of psychology in an applied setting. Although a background in psychology, education, health or care can be beneficial, it is not crucial. Most importantly, candidates must have a strong secondary education.  

 

The full-time position is five days a week across two cases, or part time position is 2.5 or more per week (pro rata salary). 

 

We need a person who is capable and professional but also loves to play!

Full theoretical and practical training is provided initially, with ongoing very regular training, supervision and performance appraisals.  

 

Minimum 12.5 month commitment is required.  

 

Starting salary: from £17,600 (undergraduate) or £18,000 to £19,000 (graduate), plus 14% London Weighting. The part time salary is pro rata.

 

Annual leave: 23 days, plus all bank holidays and Christmas Eve if it falls on a weekday.

Additional oversees police checks are required for those who have lived or worked outside of the UK in the past five years. For applicants where English is not a first language, they are required to have a minimum of level C2 in English for speaking, listening, and reading.   

 

 

Skills required:  

 

  • Preferably an undergraduate degree in psychology or other related fields, or currently studying at this level 
  • GCSE grade C in English and Maths or an equivalent qualification.   
  • Natural enthusiasm and energy to work with children.   
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.   
  • Ability to listen and understand.   
  • Ability to educate, advise and present.   
  • Ability to work as part of a professional team, including taking direction from managers and giving and receiving feedback to all members of the team.   
  • Ability to work in a way that promotes safety and well-being of children and young people.
