Golfo Dulce Retreat

About Golfo Dulce Retreat

Our home is a rainforest and ocean retreat consisting of 400 hectares of pristine, tropical low-land rainforest, with direct beach access to Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica. Only accessible by boat, our ecolodge is entirely enclosed within Piedras Blancas National Park, which is connected to world-renowned Corcovado National Park by a biological corridor. The region around Golfo Dulce and the Osa Peninsula hosts a vast amount of land and marine species as well as diverse ecosystems; indeed it is now understood to be one of the most biodiverse places on earth. Our mission is to study, preserve and share our pristine rainforest and ocean habitats as well as support local Conservation NGOs in their efforts to monitor and protect endangered marine and rainforest species. We are completely off-grid and truly sustainable to our core; for example, we satisfy our entire electricity needs with our carbon-free hydro turbine fed by rainforest springs.

Residential Biologist

“I had the pleasure of working at Golfo Dulce Retreat for three months during the summer. It was an incredible and eye-opening experience, immersed in one of the most biodiverse areas in the world. Every day one would wake up and be surrounded by life that I had only read about before in textbooks. As a Biologist, there is nothing else quite like this! It has left a long-lasting appreciation of the natural world, as well as guiding my scientific studies at the University of Cambridge. As well as running the camera trap system and taking guests on tours, the family arranged for a stay at Osa Conservation- one of the leading conservation groups in Costa Rica. There I had the opportunity to meet scientists and conservationists from all around the world and learn more about opportunities in conservation. The family were incredibly open and warm, and made sure that I immediately felt at home there. They share a strong vision to conserve the natural world and the importance of doing so. We have become strong friends and remain in contact with each other. Overall, it is an incredible place to work. One immediately feels surrounded by family whilst also being completely immersed in the rainforest and all the wonderful life that occupies it. For anyone reading this, I urge you- just go for it!”
